Meet Joe*

*Joe's name has been changed to protect his confidentiality

As a person who has lived (HIV Positive) since 1990, I am relatively surprised to still be alive.  It has only been with the help and support of my local AIDS Resource Center that I have maintained a positive attitude and have met my financial obligations.

On many occassions, I have received help in so many ways.  Help with health care, help and support through group meetings, and financial aid through Ryan White funds.  If this help wasn't available I really don't think I would be here today!  This disease causes many problems and concerns with myself.  Even my family isn't too supportive and if they really knew the way I contracted HIV, it would really alienate me completely.  Ir eally enjoy the group of people at my local center, the support, the occassional outings and events!  it is truly the only place I feel welcome and accepted.

This disease has caused a lot of isolation on my part, but I have found a place where I feel comfortable and accepted.  Again, I really don't know what I would do without the help and support of these people!  I am truly grateful that a place like this exists and has funding and support.  there is much more I could say, but Thank you very much for your TIME and unconditional LOVE!!
